Rabin Mondal(Born 1932)
Descending from a poor Bengali family, Rabin Mondal is one such artist whose unparallel geniuses falls beyond comparison with any fellow artist of his era. His reflections towards the surroundings while growing up in poverty and dismay have been tremendously difficult. His formative years saw struggle, hunger, poverty, despair, socio political dilemma which found a way into his artistic maxim often reflected through his gnarled creations. It was during his childhood, when he had met with an accident that rendered his knee suffer a heavy injury, which slowly but brutally brought about a feeling of isolation leaving art as his only form of respite and escape. Mondal’s work exhibit a brooding enactment within an unparallel primitive soaked deep in an unpitying fashion like nothing else.
