Gaganendranath Tagore

Regarded by many as one of the earliest modern artists of India, Gaganendranath Tagore was a painter and cartoonist from Bengal.  He was a nephew to Rabindranath Tagore.

Although, G. N Tagore had no formal art education, but he spend quite some time learning to paint with watercolours  from Harinarayan Bandopadhyay. Apart from picking on the traditional water colouring style, the painter also studied Japanese brush techniques and introduced the fine essence of European art forms into modern Indian Art.

He along with Abanindranath Tagore founded the Indian Society of Oriental Art. At a later phase, he completely gave up on the revivalism of the Bengal School and resorted to caricatures wholly.
